The Círculo del Liceo will be hosting the conference «Turning true crime into a modern literary thriller» by Stan Parish, journalist and writer.
Stan Parish’s recent novel, Love and Theft, is a New York Times Editor’s Choice that has been published in ten countries and counting; film rights have been optioned by Universal Studios. The story follows Alex Cassidy and Diane Alison, who meet at a cocktail party. She's a single mother, local fixture, and owner of a successful catering company. He's a single father, weekend homeowner, and leader of an armed-robbery crew that just pulled off a record-breaking jewel heist in Las Vegas. Neither one realizes that their lives have overlapped before, and that the shared history they uncover will threaten everyone they love. Set in Las Vegas, Princeton, Tulum and Southern Spain, the novel was inspired by an array of true-crime stories, some of which Parish encountered as an editor-in-chief at The Wall Street Journal, and some of which he stumbled on in his personal life. In this talk, he’ll discuss the process of turning news stories and chance encounters into a thriller, the editing and publishing process, and the transition from book to film.
Stan Parish is the former editor in chief of The Future of Everything at The Wall Street Journal and the author of the novels LOVE AND THEFT and DOWN THE SHORE. His writing has appeared in GQ, Esquire, Surface, New Jersey Monthly, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The New York Times Magazine among other publications.
Tras la conferencia tendrá lugar una cena a la que asistirá el ponente.
