Inspired by William Hogart's homonymous paintings and prints, The Rake's Progress is Igor Stravinsky's latest and most ambitious opera. Premiered at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 1951, it is the result of the Russian composer's collaboration with one of the great American poets of the 20th century, W. H. Auden. An opera in which the classicism of the 18th century merges with the modernity of the 20th in an absolutely unique and brilliant way.
